Willingdon Hospital had been synonymous with quality medical care in the city for over 90 years. The hospital, where many distinguished sons and daughters of Madras city were born was one of the famous landmarks of the city, one that carried the name of someone who had been the First Lady of Madras during the early years of the 20th century.
The establishment of CWCF in 1999, with the proceeds of the sale of the hospital has helped non-profit organisations in Chennai build better tomorrows on the one hand and recognise the promotional and participatory role of the leading corporate bodies in Chennai on the other.
With the annual interest earnings from its capital, the trust decided to support a wide spectrum of programmes and projects that would benefit as many deserving institutions as possible.
Objectives :
To support a wide spectrum of programmes and projects that would benefit a substantial number of deserving Non-Governmental Organisations-under three broad classifications, Health Care, Education & Research, and Social Welfare.
CWCF focuses on various avenues to improve the quality of life for the underprivileged in palliative care, senior citizen care, care of the differently abled, education, research, social welfare and community improvement, immunisation programmes, control of epidemics, promotion of hygiene and improvement of infrastructure in institutions. Public service is another cause towards which donations are made. Preservation of heritage, environment and animal care, promotion of arts, crafts, sports activities, and creating awareness on road safety are other causes.
